5 Risky Toys to Avoid for 2017

Now that the holiday season is in full swing, there’s a good chance that you’re going shopping for toys the kids in your family want. However, it’s important that you make sure the holiday toys you buy are safe, especially if you’re buying them for younger children. The following are five examples of toys you’ll want to avoid buying this season:

  1. Brianna Baby Doll – This doll may seem harmless, but the clothing and ponytail holders, which are removable, present choking hazards to smaller children. The doll is marketed to children 18 months and older, which means that this can be a serious safety risk.

  2. Hand Fidgetz Spinners – These novelty items have become quite popular over the past year. They were always supposed to be novelty items and not toys. Despite this, they are still sold in a lot of toy aisles and are popular among kids. The problem is, they contain high levels of lead and have been known to overheat while charging, both of which are safety risks.

  3. Nerf Zombie Strike Deadbolt Crossbow – Nerf guns are a lot of fun for older children, but they can still pose an injury risk. Even though this particular nerf toy shoots toy arrows that are soft and shouldn’t hurt, they are launched with such force that they could still potentially cause injuries to the eye or face.

  4. Pull Along Polly – This toy is meant for playpens or cribs. However, its cord is 19 inches long, which is much longer than the industry safety standard of 12 inches and can pose a strangulation hazard.

  5. Slackers Slackline Classic Series Kit – Although this toy may seem like a ton of fun for children – and is marketed towards kids of all ages – even the label on the kit warns that there is a serious safety risk present as a result of potential strangulation or fall-related injuries.

These are some of the holiday toys you should avoid this year. To keep up-to-date with all the latest health-related news, be sure to keep visiting us at The Benefits Store.
